Reporting to the Parliamentary Commission for Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, chief diplomat Donika Grovalla warned that during this week they will make a decision on forming a group that deals with technical, political and diplomatic membership in NATO. Meanwhile, he said Kosovo is ready for the admission of 5,000 Ukrainian refugees.
“In all possible diplomatic forms we have made clear that Kosovo is interested in Kosovo being closer NATO and possibly full-fledged NATO member. We knew there were several different degrees leading to full NATO membership, so those different steps are defined at other times, as by February 24th we entered a new era we like Europe. Therefore, I cannot promise that such a thing can happen, but I can promise that we will work hard to overcome certain phases, which have been self-aware by February 24th and Kosovo offers the opportunity to be as close as possible NATO, even if it is not offered the opportunity to be full-fledged members, the minimum that should happen with Kosovo is that with Sweden, Finland, Austria and some other states that are not members of NATO be at the second table around NATO, but to be part of the table when NATO talks about the future of Europe and NATO. We have asked the Government to establish a group that deals with the technical, political and diplomatic side of our membership in various NATO mechanisms. During this week, you will surely have information about what steps we think we can take. There are developments that make us optimistic about membership in the Council of Europe, and there no one can predict the future. We can only predict our share, what we're doing to make such a thing possible. Even there we met several institutions together and discussed the steps. On Thursday we wait for a visit unless anything special happens, Germany's Foreign Affairs Minister”, she said.
The minister, MPs, announced to them the decisions they have taken to line up with international allies to condemn Russian aggression in Ukraine. She said they also applied to KFOR to close Kosovo's airspace to Russia.
“We need to be careful how much leisure time European states have to deal with enlargement and other aspects, however much the idea of a disaster that we didn't create was involved. We have to be conservative that the priority of European states is neither the expansion and membership of new members, but the confrontation with the extraordinary risk posed today to Europe by conventional weapons that can be used by all this madness happening there. So increasing hope among citizens cannot be the best and constructive thing we can do at this stage for membership and advancing our international position”, he stressed.
The Foreign Affairs Commission meeting continued without media presence.
