As Ukraine declared that Russian forces attacked the factory in the early hours Friday, setting fire to a five-story training facility nearby, in an incident that provoked Moscow's international sentence, a week after its invasion to Ukraine.
A Russian defence ministry spokesman said the nuclear plant was functioning normally and the area was under Russian control as of 28 February, Reuters reported.
“However, last night in the territory next to the thermal power plant, an effort was made by Kiev's nationalist regime to conduct a monstrous provocation,” was quoted as saying by spokesman Igor Konsenkov.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy directly called on Russians to organise protests to capture nuclear power infrastructure by Russian troops in Ukraine.
