Last week, the White House asked the convention to approve $10 billion.
According to the White House, half of them would go towards the deployments of American troops in the region and the security of military equipment in Kiev, while the rest would help the US State Department and the Agency for International Development (USAID) with security and economic assistance.
Congress has the final word for financing and is rushing to attach funds to a package of government spending that should pass Friday, the BBC writes, broadcasts Klanksoova.tv.
Prior to his approval, Ukraine's ambassador to the US, Oksana Markarova, thanked the congressmen, while urging them to take urgent action.
In a letter to the congress, she called on the funds to be “flexible to ensure that we can respond immediately to new challenges”.
Markarova also called for other forms of support, particularly <x0 microplanes and air defence systems” for an immediate term.
