Lumez said this is the great success of institutions, while remembering that “the fight against crime and corruption is in our country's agenda in the visa liberalisation process”.
We announce that after a long period of investigation, about a year, we have begun investigating this case with IPK. We've committed two prosecutors to investigating this criminal case. During this phase we have used many secret investigation means with the aim of producing enough evidence for alleged criminal crime. We had information at first that there were criminal acts of bribery in customs stations and considering that we had no right to apply secret measures for concrete persons, but we only issued secret measures for criminal acts”, Lumez said.
The chief state prosecutor said the investigations were launched against 68 people, while currently 50 of them were arrested.
“At the moment of discovering the identities of criminal offenses, we have made a decision to conduct investigations against 68 people. Today, you have been reportedly arrested by 50 state officials, 48 by Kosovo Police and two from Kosovo customs service. While the other persons, to whom the act of starting investigations has been issued, some are not citizens of the Republic of Kosovo”, Lumez said.
At this point, Lumez said that “we are co-operating with the authorities of the Republic of Albania” to ensure, as he said, “informations and evidence that will serve us”.
“Of the 50 people arrested have confiscated mobile phones that have been possessed, which will later serve us in this case”, Lumez said.
