The demarcation between Montenegro and Kosovo was completed in 2015 and that the two states must move forward for a better life for their citizens, Montenegrin President Milo Djukanovic's cabinet has said.
“As a start, Montenegro is a NATO member state. The demarcation between Montenegro and Kosovo was finalised in 2015. The agreement was confirmed by both governments in 2015 and went into effect in 2018. Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and Montenegrin Filip Vujanovic signed a joint statement in February 2018,” was the words of Djukanovic's cabinet.
“They called on the Kosovo Assembly to ratify the agreement. The Kosovo Parliament ratified it a month later. As two states, we have to move forward for a better life for our citizens”, they said of the Cabinet, answering questions about Kosovo translators' statements for demarcation with Montenegro and whether the Demarketation Agreement can be annulled”.
However, Prime Minister Albin Kurti, during a visit to the school “Xhemail Mustafa” in Pristina, had said treatment of this case with the new Montenegrin government is expected, as the previous one had been pro-Russian and pro- Belgrade.
“We hope that soon Montenegro will have new Government to talk to, to address this issue as well as the preliminary government, which had pro-Russian elements within the pro- Belgrade and of course there are no conditions for such treatment”, Kurti had said.
Meanwhile, outgoing Prime Minister Zdravko Krivokapiq called Kurti's statement unacceptable provocation.
I consider Mr. Kurti's statement declaring dangerous aspirations for violating Montenegro's territorial integrity unacceptable. Interestingly, there is no reaction from Montenegro's president and unconstitutional Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic”, Krivokapiq said.
On March 21st 2018, Kosovo Assembly deputies had approved the Demarket Agreement with Montenegro by 80 votes per and 11 against.
The agreement for demarcation between Podgorica and Pristina, which was signed in Vienna on 26 August 2015, has entered into force on 4 June 2019.
