China's health authorities reported two deaths from COVID-19 on Saturday, the first deaths since January last year, as the country struggles with an increase in Omitron version cases.
Deaths, both in the northeastern province of Yildi, raise the death toll from the Coronavirus to 4,638 since the beginning of the pandemic.
China reported 2,157 new cases Saturday, most of the cases in Yildi, the Guardian reports.
The province has imposed a travel ban, with people needing police permission to travel across borders.
