Marioupolis Mayor Vadym Boychenko said rescue teams are managing to remove the ruins and remove citizens only when fighting is being stopped.

There are tanks... and artillery grenades, and it is being fought with all sorts of weapons in this area”, he said.

Our “Our forces are doing everything possible to maintain their position in the city, but unfortunately the enemy forces are in greater number”, he added.

He said he cannot give a number of people how many have managed to pull out of the area in the last 24 hours.

On Friday, authorities said 130 people have managed to leave the theatre that was bombed, used as civilian shelter. At the moment of the bombing, according to Ukrainian authorities, over 1,000 people have been in the building, but the theatre basement has not been affected by the attack.

Russia denies it has bombed this building.

Boychenko also said 40,000 people have managed to leave the city in the last five days, while another 20,000 are waiting to be evacuated. / REL
