“Visita will reaffirm the EU's commitment and support for the region, due to Russia's war on Ukraine and the impact of this war on Europe's security as a whole”, it was said in the EU report regarding its trip to the Western Balkans.
On March 14th, Borrell will stay in Skopje, where he will meet with Macedonian President Stevo Pendarovski, Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski, as well as with other officials.
Borrell is also expected to participate in an event organised by civil society and youth organisations, within a conference for Europe's Future.
On March 15th, Borrell will stay in Tirana, where he will meet with Prime Minister Edi Rama and other senior officials. While in Albania, the chief of EU diplomacy will visit works on restoration of a mosaic of the National Museum of History, which has been funded by the EU after the earthquake in Albania.
Meanwhile, on 16 March Borrell will stay in Sarajevo, meeting EUFOR troops and then meeting with state, opposition and civil society representatives.
All Western Balkan states, except for Serbia, have imposed sanctions the EU has presented against Russia. Serbia, which is a candidate state for membership in the European bloc, has not imposed sanctions on the Russian Federation.
