EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, who is participating in the Versailles summit, told reporters that Europe is more united than ever.
“I have never seen the most united member states”, Borrell said.
“Putin believed he would invade Ukraine ) he failed. He believed he'd separate us. He failed. He believed he would weaken the transatlantic alliance and he failed. Now he must stop the fight”, Borrell said.
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyeen said Putin's war was a defining moment for Europe.
In this summit we will rethink European protection with strong capacities, we will rethink energy”, she said.
We will also discuss Ukraine as part of our European family. We want a free and democratic Ukraine with which we have a common fate”, she added.
At the Versailles summit in Paris, EU leaders are expected to discuss how to reduce Western dependence on Russian energy and strengthen political and moral support for Ukraine.
