Biden met with dozens of soldiers during a March 25th visit to Rzeszow, located less than 160km from the military base in western Ukraine, which was attacked by Russia on March 13th.
Thousands of American troops are stationed in Poland as part of NATO battalions. This country has also sheltered over 2 million Ukrainian refugees since Russia began its unprotested invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
Beden travelled to Poland after visiting Brussels, where he and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyeen announced an agreement by the European bloc with the US on the purchase of liquid natural gas, in order for the EU to leave Russian gas imports.
Beden, who has met with NATO, EU and G7 leaders, is expected to hold talks with Polish leaders on energy and refugee issues.
Before leaving for Poland, Biden said he hoped his visit would reaffirm US commitment to help the displaced Ukrainians inside and outside Ukraine.
Due to the fighting, almost 4 million civilians have left Ukraine, yet tens of thousands more have been blocked in cities surrounded by Russian troops, and are facing shortages of water and food supplies. /rel/
