A delegation of former United States defence officials has arrived in Taiwan on Tuesday as a sign of increased communication between the two countries at the time of a threat to the horizon coming from China, writes the Associated Press, Pryscope notes.
Former head of the Admirals' Staff, Mike Mullen, is leading the delegation of five members expected to meet with the country's president, Tsai Ing-wan and other leaders during the two-day visit.
The Taiwanese president's office said the delegation was appointed by the president of the United States, Joe Biden, and that the visit is aimed at subtle exchange of views between the two countries in various fields.
Taiwan believes that the parties will continue to deepen stable relations between Taiwan and the United States, continue to maintain regional partnership and stability, and will continue to contribute jointly to the agreement and global prosperity, the announcement said.
China has not condemned Russia's fight against Ukraine, and its criticism of sanctions against Moscow is widely seen as a sign of commitment between the two countries.
