American citizen killed in Ukraine

The US State Department confirmed on Thursday that an American citizen was killed in a Russian attack on the Ukrainian town of Chernihiv.

The identity of the murdered American has not been disclosed. He is the second American citizen to be killed in the conflict, following the murder of journalist and director Brent Renaud last week.

Chernihivi police said there was a heavy artillery attack in the city and that among the civilians killed was an American citizen.

In Chernihiv, a town north of Kiev, at least 53 people were killed during the last 24 hours during heavy Russian air strikes.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also said Thursday that an American citizen was killed in Ukraine in the midst of the ongoing Russian invasion.

I can confirm that an American citizen has been killed. I don't have any more details”, Blinken told reporters at a news conference.

Blinken said he agrees with the president, Joe Biden, that war crimes were committed in Ukraine.

He said American experts are in the process of documentation and assessment of possible war crimes committed in Ukraine.
