Ukraine's president, Voldymyr Zelensky, whose country is facing an unprotested invasion by neighbouring Russia, called on the European Union to offer Ukraine immediate membership, with separate procedures.
Our goal is to be with all Europeans and, most importantly, to be equal. I'm sure it's right. I'm sure we deserve”, Zelensky said in a video statement distributed to social media.
“Europeans are witnesses to how our soldiers are fighting not only for our country, but for all of Europe, for peace, for peace for all, for all European Union countries”, he said.
“Ukrains have told the world who we are, and Russia has shown what has become... Every crime, every grenade from the conqueror only brings us closer to”, Zelensky added.
He also called on the invading Russian soldiers to surrender their weapons.
“Abandon your devices! Get out of here! Do not trust your commanders! Do not believe in those who spread evil. Simply, save your life”, Zelensky said.
