If he attacks, Putin will become a war criminal and Russia will become a deceitful state. Major legal and financial complications for Russia, if it attacks”, former General Clark wrote in his Twitter account, the Express reported.
In an interview for the Croatian public broadcaster, HRT, Clark has commented on the tensions between Russia and the West for Ukraine, saying Russian President Vladimir Putin must decide “if he is to pay an extremely high price if he really attacks Ukraine”.
Asked what might be the most likely scenario he sees at the moment in Ukraine, the former top military official said: “I think Ukraine should be strong. Putin must decide whether to pay a terrible price if he actually attacks Ukraine. Vladimir Putin controls Russia, it is, in essence, a police state. ”
If he wants to save that country, he must withdraw the army. Nothing prevents him from retirement. It just has to say “we've completed the exercise, thank you” and continue the dialogue with NATO. That's all. This is my advice to Vladimir Putin”, said the former US general, who had led NATO forces at wartime in Kosovo.
He also warned that the conflict would be a horror for Russia, adding that thousands of people would be killed and that Russia would be seen as a deceitful state. “We know Putin has the ability for terrible violence. He's not European. He does not think like a European or American leader”, Clark added.
