Von der Leyen said the measures would be broad and harsh.
“We will make it as difficult for the Kremlin to follow its aggressive actions”, she said.
Germany had “candidly correct” to suspend a major gas pipeline project from Russia, she added.
“This crisis shows that Europe is still very dependent on Russian gas, we must diversify our supplies,” she said.
Our action today is a response to Russia's aggressive behavior. If Russia continues to escalate this crisis that it created, we are willing to take further action in response. ”
