The President of the United States, Joe Biden, has been hired in principle for a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin over the coming days, while the American leader is seeking to prevent the Kremlin leader from conquering Ukraine.
Beden would meet Putin after the February 24th talks between US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, “if no invasion has taken place”, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said through a statement issued on February 20th.
The idea of a bilateral meeting has been proposed by French President Emmanuel Macron, who has held separate talks with the two leaders on February 20th.
It was not known on which date or location this summit would be held. Beden and Putin first met in Geneva in June. That summit was rushed after a smaller gathering of the Russian Army near Ukraine, which occurred during the spring.
Before the summit, Beden will participate in the virtual meeting with the leaders of the Seven Group (G7), which will be held on 24 February. This meeting will discuss the crisis caused by Russia's military gathering.
