Turkish Foreign Minister Mevluüt Cavusoglu said on Sunday that Turkey recognises Russia's invasion of Ukraine as a <x0th> war”.
Is this a conflict or a war? We decided on that. Article 19 of the Montreux Convention is very clear. This is a fight”, he said in an interview for CNN Turk.
Turkey's recognition is important for the implementation of the 1936 Montreal Convention that regulates sea passage through Turkish straits.
Yesterday Turkey said it had not yet made a decision concerning the closure of its straits between the Mediterranean and the Black Sea for crossing Russian warships despite an earlier claim by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, writes The Guardian.
According to The Guardian, a Turkish official said a decision has not yet been made to block Russian warships in the Black Sea. If something like that were to happen, it would violate the Black Sea State Convention that warships could return to ports during the war.
