The Russian military contingent near the Ukrainian border is insufficient to commit a large-scale successful armed aggression against Ukraine”, says a Ukrainian intelligence report, which CNN has secured.
The total number of Russian forces near the border with Ukraine has increased to over 148,000, including more than 126,000 ground troops, according to the report. This is in line with recent US reports on the power of Russian forces threatening Ukraine.
According to the new Ukrainian intelligence assessment, exclusively shared with CNN, there are currently 87 tactical groups of Russia's battalion in constant readiness around Ukraine, 53 more than usual, located in the area.
The Ukrainian intelligence report also detailed what it called a <x0 loss of Russian slide of Belarus”, suggesting that Russia continues to strengthen its air and missile forces in the country that borders Russia and Ukraine. The report said Belarus is now “a full theatre of operations”, which Russia can use “to expand its aggression in Eastern Europe”.
