The Taliban have been declared on the Russian invasion of Ukraine, calling for “content from both sides” and saying they are monitoring the situation.
A statement shared by Abdul Qahar Balkhi, a spokesman for the Taliban Foreign Affairs Ministry, called for the two sides of the conflict “to resolve the crisis “in line with its foreign neutrality policy”, writes The Independent.
Since it spread online, the statement has been met with mockery by social media users.
The Taliban had taken power in Afghanistan in August last year, ending the 20 years of democratic elected government.
Last year, West-backed Afghanistan's president, Ashraf Ghan, had to flee the country after the Taliban took power when the US declared it would withdraw.
The Taliban, since taking power, have committed a series of murders in a brief period.
