Russia's political and economic isolation has deepened after its forces have faced fierce resistance in Ukraine's capital, Kiev, and other cities. The West has also toughened sanctions against Russia.

Blasts have been heard in Kiev and the town of Kharkiev on Monday morning, Ukrainian officials said.

Ukrainian and Russian officials are expected to hold talks at a location on the Belarus-Ukraine border, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's office said.

European countries and Canada have closed their air spaces for Russian aircraft. Canada said the Russian airline, the Aeroflower, has violated the ban on its sky.

The European Union will finance Ukraine's weapons, to help it defend against Russian occupation, senior EU officials said Sunday. Russia names its actions in Ukraine as “special operation”.

At least 352 civilians, including 14 children, have been killed since the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Ukraine's Health Ministry said Sunday. Over 1,600 people reported injuries.

Tens of thousands of people across Europe protested Sunday against the Russian invasion of Ukraine. In Russia, more than 5,500 people were arrested in various anti-war protests. /rel/
