Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said today that Moscow will respond within hours to Washington's proposals regarding European security at a time when tensions remain high after the deployment of Russian troops on borders with Ukraine.
Moscow has sought guarantees from NATO and Washington that Ukraine will be unable to membership in the organisation led by the United States. It has also called for NATO to halt all military activity in Eastern Europe, writes AlJazeera, Pryscopi traces.
These demands have been flatly rejected, but the United States has sent additional counterpropossions to Moscow aimed at extending the situation in order to find space for agreements on security issues.
