NATO has ordered its military commanders to intensify preparations to defend ally territory after Russia invaded Ukraine, putting hundreds of fighter aircraft and ships on alert and agreeing to increase the number of troops on its eastern side.
Secretary - General NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, said he had called a virtual emergency summit of 30 alliance nations for Friday, including US President Joe Biden, and they would join the leaders of Sweden, Finland and European Union institutions, Reuters writes.
NATO has strongly condemned Russia's attack on Ukraine, claiming Moscow will pay the high economic and political price.
US President Joe Biden declared that only Russia is responsible for the death and destruction the attack launched today at Vladimir Putin's order. The world will seek accounts from Russia, the US president stressed.
