US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has congratulated Serbia on the day of citizenship.
Through a letter sent to Aleksandar Vucinqi, among other things, Blinken also mentions Kosovo's recognition, asking for reaching a comprehensive agreement as well as mutual recognition with Kosovo.
Our “countries have built strong ties over the past 140 years, and the United States expects to build an even brighter future together as partners in Europe and the global scene. We are committed to supporting Serbia's goal of European integration and encouraging the comprehensive normalisation of relations focused on mutual recognition with Kosovo, which will foster greater security and stability in the region”, said among other things in the letter of the senior US official to the head of the Serbian state.
Read below the complete letter:
On behalf of the United States of America, I congratulate the people of Serbia at your national holiday.
Our countries have built strong ties over the past 140 years and the United States expects to build an even brighter future together as partners in Europe and the global scene. We are committed to supporting Serbia's goal of European integration and encouraging the comprehensive normalisation of relations focused on mutual recognition with Kosovo, which will foster greater security and stability in the region.
We are proud to be partners with Serbia in strengthening our economic ties, security co-operation and supporting Serbia's energy diversification. Our economic partnership with Serbia increased significantly in 2021, with new investments in infrastructure, technology and agriculture sectors. We also increased our bilateral defence co-operation, celebrating the 15th anniversary of the State Partnership Programme, holding a significant bilateral air exercise and conducting bilateral, high-level military consultations. Our strong ties stem not only from what we achieve among governments, but from the common efforts and aspirations of daily Serbian and American citizens, as testified to by the 30th anniversary of the Fulbright programme and the launch of new academic partnerships between US and Serbian universities.
As we look forward to building an even stronger bilateral relationship, I wish them peace, prosperity and good health for the people of Serbia.
