British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called for an end to Russia's involvement in SWIFT, the safe service of messages facilitating payments among 11,000 financial institutions in 200 countries.
This call comes as an act of support to Ukraine, writes CNN.
“We are calling for an end to Russian involvement in SWIFT,” said a update of the United Kingdom government for Ukraine, which Johnson posted on Saturday in Titter.
The European Union is divided over Ukraine's appeal for Russia to be barred from service.
In a video message for Ukrainians earlier Saturday, the country's President Volodymyr Zelensky said most EU members now support the deployment of the new sanctions, but urged Germany and Hungary to do the same.
Ukraine called for Russia to be removed from SWIFT after President Vladimir Putin ordered an invasion Thursday.
