Minister of Internal Affairs, coming from the ranks of Vetevendosje, Jedal Svecla, has recalled the two VV activists Arben Geedini and Mon Balaj, who were killed 15 years ago while protesting Kosovo's negotiations with Serbia and Ahtisaari's Pack.
Svechla said that today they remember Mon and Arben as the martyrs of the people for freedom and self - determination.
“Today it is 15 years after the February 10, 2007. We were organised to protest the Ahtisaari package, which stressed restrictions on the legitimate aspirations of the people of Kosovo. The people of Kosovo belonged to independence, and we had nothing to give more than what we gave. Thousands of peaceful protesters seeking self-rule faced the rampant violence of UNMIK police. Over 232 expired rubber bullets were fired on protesters, who injured dozens of citizens, where Mon Balaj and Arben Xhedeeni were killed and Mustafe Nerjova, Zenel Zeneli of Hyseni were seriously injured. Today we remember Mon and Arben as martyrs of the people for freedom and self - determination. They gave their lives for Kosovo and their sacrifice for freedom and independence is our clear guide to the responsibilities we have in front of them and to all citizens of our Republic. Glory be to the life and work of Mon Balat, and to Arben Geladin. We were walking straight that day, we had to walk straight to”, Svechla wrote.
