Italian media suggest that the event took place in Raffadali, in the area of Agrigenteno, where it is dead, Vincenzo Gabriele Rampelo.
The reason for the incident is unknown while police are investigating the murder circumstances.
Meanwhile, Gaetano Rampelo, 57, who was assistant chief of state police co-ordinator in service of the 10th Catania Mobile Department, has been arrested.
He has been apprehended by authorities while trying to leave the country.
