Bundestag MP, who is also rapporteur for the Western Balkans, Addis Ahmetovic, has today met Serbia's president, Aleksandar Vuciq, with whom he has talked about relations between Germany and Serbia.

The topic of talking with them was the Kosovo issue, which Ahmetovic told Vuciqi that Serbia's EU membership is possible only after a final clarification with Kosovo, Kosovo reports.

Further EU integration “and a reliable prospect of EU membership are also at the top of the agenda. But this also includes a complete normalisation of relations between Serbia and Kosovo. Only when this is eventually clarified is it possible for both countries to join the EU”.

In the 45-minute conversation between the German MP and the Serbian president, relations between the two countries -- Ahmetovic said is interested in advancing -- were also praised.

I want to support Serbia in this effort. I am very interested in a close, flexible and reliable bilateral relationship between Serbia and Germany.
Foreign Affairs Commission and Chief Reporting for the Western Balkans member Addis Ahmetovic, today on Thursday, has met with Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq in Belgrade.

The “bilateral relations between Germany and Serbia continue to be reliable and close. In addition, Serbia has made great economic progress in recent years. This makes the country an important driving force for the region. However, this comes with responsibility and expectation. Serbia has the important task of actively contributing to stabilising the region and building or supporting the bridges of understanding. In addition to EU integration, co-operation with neighbouring countries and regional stability are cornerstones for ensuring stability and progress in the Western Balkans region”, Ahmetovic said.
