Escobar said they seek an association that Kosovo and Serbia agree on.
The US Emissar stressed that the United States is trying to reach an agreement focused on mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia.
Escobar said the two sides in this dialogue as equal should work to resolve disputes.
“Need for dialogue, compromise and reform applies to the entire region. We strongly support the dialogue mediated by the EU for normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia”, the US diplomat said initially.
On the other hand, he stressed that the comprehensive agreement is something the two countries need their European future for.
“Dialog is a forum in which both sides, as equal, should work to resolve their differences and reach a comprehensive agreement that both countries need their European future. We believe this effort should focus on mutual recognition”, Escobar said.
The US neither supports an association that undermines Kosovo's sovereignty, and the unit of governance in the country. But we seek to become an association that Kosovo and Serbia agree on and which does not conflict with legal norms in Kosovo, so it is Kosovo's duty to set the right pattern for this association. Yeah, that's why we're trying to reach an agreement focused on mutual recognition. ”, he declared.
In the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Europe and Regional Security Co-operation, Escobar also spoke of other countries in the region and the Western Balkans.
