During the report to the Parliamentary Commission for Security Affairs, Kosovo Police Union Chairman Imer Zeqiri has said that KK members deserve more dignified treatment.
He has said that police members face major challenges, and that according to him the government should consider their demands. At the Security Affairs Commission meeting, Zeqiri has indicated that since the beginning of the pandemic, 25 police officials have passed away.
Zeqiri voiced concern about dealing with police officers, where he said police should have more dignified treatment. He has in this case expressed disappointment over the Kosovo Police's salary cofficiency.
The RPC currently numbers 9 thousand 119 employees, including civilian staff. Since we have 21 officials killed during the establishment of the KPS, we have 426 officials who have been injured during the post, 237 officials who have been sick during duty and 528 cases of particular diseases. From the beginning of the pandemic, we have 25 police officials who have lost their lives from the pandemic and 2 thousand and 500 officials who have been infected and I believe that these allegations are an indication of the challenges of police officials over the years. Kosovo Police officers must have a dignified treatment. Bills on wages have been offered to us, along with the cofficiency that has been introduced, for the Kosovo Police Union from the start is unacceptable because we don't have the cost of the cofficient. It is unacceptable to rank the cofficients in the PK compared to other institutions”, he said.
According to him, this is discriminated against the Kosovo Police.
“Work with risk and challenge, policemen work in investigations, currently the prosecutor, as compared to this policeman gets five salaries. It's unacceptable the bill that was offered to us with these cofficiency”, he said.
As a concern, he has also raised a lack of health insurance.
We've been contacted by the Kosovo Insurance Bureau and we can make health insurance until it becomes the law not to remain official without insurance. With 5 million a year we can make a health insurance for the Kosovo Police. If the government is willing to respond to this matter”, he has said.
Among other things, he has mentioned police who over the years have left this institution, which, according to this, has happened because they have found better opportunities.
We could lose the professionals for whom it's been invested for years to achieve that professionalism”, he added.
The head of the KP Union has said they are not influenced by politics and that they have never had any pressure from power or other political parties.
He has said that on December 20th of last year, he has held meetings with Interior Minister.
I think we've touched all issues that distract us and that should advance to the Kosovo Police. It was our request for that time for an additional reward for the end of the year that wasn't realized, and we didn't have to answer why this job was not done, he said.
He has yet said that from non-confirmed information, many political officials have applied for visas, which he says is also disturbing.
It's disturbing the work of the policemen who have quit their jobs and there are indicators that this phenomenon will continue because they certainly have the reason because they are doing better. I don't have a statistic, but unconfirmed information has many police officials applied for visas and they're waiting, and this is really disturbing”, he indicated.
