This is our home”, Americans who refuse to leave Ukraine

As tensions mount, the US government has urged its citizens to leave Ukraine immediately, citing the threat of an imminent Russian invasion. But not all American citizens living in Ukraine are considering this counsel. Many do not believe that a full - scale attack on Kiev [...]
Many do not believe a full-scale attack on Kiev is inevitable, despite warnings from sources of intelligence cited in the media.
BBC News Ukraine spoke to some Americans living in the country, including businessmen, teachers, and volunteers, and asked about their decision to stay.
Sean Almeida, from Boston, has been building a business in Kiev since 2014 and now, despite the threat, is not planning to leave Ukraine.
“Let Biden say whatever he wants, but I will not panic and leave the country that has long become my house”, he says.
Former American soldier David Plaster has been living in Ukraine for nearly 10 years, actively volunteering within the local community and a very public personality.
When asked why he does not fear a possible Russian attack and has to leave Kiev, he simply answers: “Because this is my house”.
James Martin was born in a small town in Iowa, graduated from Michigan University, and later studied at the Steel Institute in Moscow.
When James moved to Kiev, he started working as an English teacher acting at the same time.
News of a possible Russian invasion has not changed its plans and decided to ignore the White House's call for evacuation.
“I am not leaving Ukraine, but that does not mean I do not respect Biden or government”, he told BBC News Ukrainian.
