“Mbi 30 ships from the Black Sea fleet came to sea from Sebastopol and Novorossysk in line with the exercise plan”, the Russian Defence Ministry said Saturday morning, wrote foreign media.
The aim of the exercise is to protect the coast of the Crime Peninsula, the bases of Black Sea Navy forces, as well as the country's economic sector ... from possible military threats,”, the ministry added.
The move comes after the US on Friday gave its strongest warning of a possible Russian invasion of Ukraine, saying it could take place “at any moment”.
White House National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan told reporters that such an attack is likely to begin with air strikes and missile attacks and urged Americans in Ukraine to leave the country “as soon as possible”.
