Kosovo police consistently seize weapons without permission, where only during the year 2021 has they confiscated 1,000 and 280 weapons and over 42 thousand ammunition.
In 2020, Kosovo police seized a total of 1,000 and 135 weapons, in 2019 confiscated 1,000 and 439 weapons, in 2018 confiscated 1 000 and 473 weapons, and in 2017 confiscated 11,000 and 211 weapons.
In addition to weapons, Kosovo police for the past five years have seized over 150 thousand ammunition, where in 2021 it confiscated 42 thousand and 31 ammunition, in 2020 confiscated 32,000 and 747 ammunition, in 2019 confiscated 30 thousand and 438 ammunition, in 2018 confiscated 23 thousand and 941 ammunition and confiscated 26 thousand and 178 ammunition.
Destan Mustafa, leader of the weapons and ammunition division at the DSP, has said that in recent years there is a decrease in the number of illegal weapons in the hands of Kosovo citizens.
The adoption of the Law on Weapons and the organisation of campaigning for legalisation are the reasons he mentions that it has contributed to the decline in this issue.
Kosovo's “Law on Weapons has enacted it in 2009, until then it has worked with UNMIK regulations. Since the last research somewhere in 2004, which resulted in about 360 thousand weapons, in recent research in 2015 has resulted in about 250 thousand illegal weapons in the hands of citizens”.
The number's “Decent has certainly influenced by the introduction of the Law for Weapons in 2009, which has granted citizens the right to master weapons legally on the grounds of sports, meaning recreation and hunting. Now this number of about 250 thousand is, as a result, even smaller because of annual seizures of weapons by Kosovo Police, arms and ammunition, means Kosovo Police seized about 1,000 and 500 weapons and ammunition in large quantities every year. This has contributed to a slight reduction in the number of illegal weapons”, he said on the “Justice Trust” show.
