The photograph allegedly taken at Belgrade airport has been clicked hundreds of thousands of times on social media. But according to DW research, it's fake.
The alleged destination flight “Kosovo Serbia” seems to be deliberate provocation. Kosovo is not a city, but a state and airport signs are usually not marked by the name of the state, but by the city where the plane arrives. Kosovo's parliament also declared independence in 2008, even though Serbia, Russia and China, or five EU countries do not recognise it. Kiev too is the chief officer of Ukraine, not a city in Russia.
And if we take a closer look at the picture, other counterfeits come into view. On the left side, for example, in the case of alleged flights to Kiev and Kosovo are the flags of states instead of airline logos, as in the case of other flights.
Flight numbers testify to manipulation
According to DW research, flight numbers indicate that the picture is forged. The flight number is an ID number specifying a certain airline flight. The letters are airline shortcuts, and the numbers are linked to information about flight, location, and departure time and destination.
So the alleged flight to Kosovo with the number W6 4051 is according to “Flight Wright” the identification number of a Wizz Airga Belgrade flight to Basel-Muhlhouse-Freiburg (MLH).
Flight to Kiev also shows that photography is manipulated. Asked by DW a spokesman from Air Serbia confirmed that flight JUD600 belongs to the Belgrade-Vjene connection and that Air Serbia does not fly to Kiev.
More test flight table for manipulation
Even the photographed sign is not at Belgrade airport. Asked by DW a spokesman at Nikola Tesla Airport in Belgrade explained that flight signs and screens at this airport are different from what is seen in the photograph. Belgrade Airport sent pictures of the current flight screens as evidence.
