The Eastern European coffee market, dominated by Russia and Poland, rose 5.3 percent last year to $7.45 billion, compared to 1.8 percent in Western Europe, according to Euromonitor International. According to these data, Albania is also included in countries that have had increased coffee consumption (gg/capal) along 2011-2016, respectively, 0.1 %. In the region, Macedonia 0.2%, Kosovo 0.3 %, Montenegro 0.4 %.

The rise in cafes and demand in retail stores means that Eastern Europe is becoming a relatively bright region, along the backdrop of the low growth of global demand for coffee and remaining markets in stagnation in the west. Enhancing economies and wage increases are boosting consumer spending, creating opportunities for various coffee chains in these countries.

In a previous report, it noted that Albanians are a brown-loved people, according to data released by Euromonitor International and research by the prestigious magazine The Economist. Albania, according to data, consumes more coffee than tea. States like Italy, Greece, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Macedonia have the same trends.

According to customs data, the import of coffee was 8.884 tons in 2016. In the last five years, coffee import has marked an increase of nearly 30%. The main countries that import coffee towards our country are Greece and Italy.

However, even though coffee imports have increased significantly, we are still the last in the region in terms of per capita consumption.

From the data processed by the Monitor, based on the import published by Customs and INSTAT's population figures, an Albanian averages 3.1kg of coffee in one year, the lowest in the region.

The first in the region for higher coffee consumption are Serbs. An average Serb uses 5.4kg of coffee per capita. The two ranked Bosniaks at 4.3kg per capita.

Among the countries with the highest consumption per capita of coffee are Scandinavian countries. The world's first place for coffee consumption is Finland with 9.1kg of coffee per capita per year. The second high - consumption is the Norwegians, who, according to the data, consume about 7.2kg per person over a year.

From processed data on coffee consumption per capita, Asian countries have the lowest consumption rate per capita in the world. This adds to the culture of these countries, which consume tea instead of coffee.
