A return to democratic order throughout the United States, but will it last?

The elections for the Congress on November 8 were not accompanied by violence. Many who have supported theories for widespread manipulation in the 2020 elections lost and quietly accepted the result. Few took note of former President Donald Trump's comments, which tried to spur groundless accusations of election fraud. [...]

Post-election discussions focused on the electoral fate of each party -- with the republics disappointed that the deep victory as they claimed did not materialise, while the relieved Democrats are preparing for the possibility of a weak republican majority in the House of Representatives. At least for now, the serious threats that surfaced to democracy on election day -- such as extremist-based violence, the intimidation of voters, and the refusal of some Republicans to recognise the election results -- were not materialised.

The “was a good day for democracy”, President Joe Biden said, while acknowledging that his party could lose one of Congress's chambers. The republican governor of New Hampshur Chris Sununou said voters were concerned with Mr. Biden's rule, but they had a more urgent message: “Rule policies later, but immediately fix the madness”, he told CNN television network.

Although many republican leaders blame Donald Trump for giving voice and supporting weak and extremist candidates who faced difficulties in the elections, the former president tried to undermine the election results from his platform in social media. Mr. Trump posted about 20 messages since Tuesday's (November 8th) afternoon, raising doubts about manipulations in the 2022 elections, focusing more and more on Nevada and Arizona, while counting votes continued.

His expected announcement Tuesday to run for the third time for the presidential post could provide Mr. Trump with another important platform to advance his false claims on the elections.

Of the main candidates for the 2022 elections, only Republican mayoral candidate Kari Lake has been aggressive in supporting Mr. Trump's baseless concerns about the protracted voting process, which is typical in several countries. The results so far present a close race between Mrs. Lake and her Democrat rival Katie Hobbs.

In Pennsylvania, Trump-backed governor Doug Mastriano lost his election. Maastriano's senior legal adviser, Jenna Ellis, a former supporter of Mr. Trump, said there was no record of serious irregularities in the vote.

There is no such concern as we saw in 2020”, Ellis said in her podcast. “We cannot say that everything was stolen would be ridiculous for this selection”

In Michigan, the Republican supported by Mr. Trump, Tudor Dixon, one of the key voices in denying the 2020 election, admitted defeat in the face of Michigan Governor Grechen Whitmer, shortly after the news agency led Press) announced the result.

One of the main progressers, Vermont Senator Bernie Saunders, who has raised concerns about threats that the extreme right represented towards democracy prior to his candidacy for president in 2020, suggested the Republicans were starting to act in a rational manner.

“I think a number of Republicans already realize that Trump's desire to undermine American democracy is not only wrong, but it is a bad policy”, Mr. Saunders told AP. For all those who want to defend lies that Trump won them in 2020, Tuesday was a bad day for them and a good day for the rest of the American people”.

In fact, so-called election disbelievers lost some of the most important races in the whole country.

Only one of 14 candidates in competitions for secretary state, part of the self-called group “First American”, Diego Morales of Indiana, won the race. This group included candidates in battlefield states such as Arizona, Michigan and Nevada, and was created under the spirit of Mr. Trump's baseless claims that the 2020 elections were stolen. Candidates who embraced such approaches also lost mayoral races in the battlefields such as Michigan, Minnesota, Viscons, Pennsylvania.

Republicans who denied the legitimacy of the last elections dominated the Senate competitions in North Carolina and Ohio. In Georgia, Republican Brian Kemp was re-elected after challenging Trump conspiracy theories, while the candidate for Senate Herschel Walker, who has supported lies of manipulation in the last elections, has moved to the runoff in a process expected to be held on December 6th.

Before election day, the president of the National Association for the Progress of Colored People, a civil rights organisation in the United States (NAACP), Pigick Johnson, said it was an extremely concerned “that this community would be afraid and therefore would not participate in elections, especially after hundreds of pro-Trump activists were registered to serve as observers across the country.

US intelligence agencies issued a document less than two weeks before the elections, warning of an increased threat to violent internal extremism, which could have been targeted by elected officials, election workers or polling stations.

But days after the closure of polling stations, Mr Johnson said the voting process went well. However, he noted, it is impossible to know whether the threats to violence may have had a <x0 effect cooling” in voter participation in the election.

The “was worrying that we should function in democracy in fear of”, Johnson said. “We should make voting easier”.

In talks with President Biden, during a weekend meeting in Southeast Asia, world leaders stressed the development of a calm US election process. National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan said the result created “a strong position for the US on the international scene”.

I would say that a topic that appeared over two days was the subject for the power of American democracy and what these choices meant for American democracy”, Mr Sullivan told reporters on board the Presidential Air Force One. So the president is satisfied with the results”.

On election day, Trump tried and failed to sow problems in many states, especially in regions with a large number of populations belonging to minorities.

Trump posted a message to social media Tuesday afternoon claiming voters were being denied the right to vote in Detroit. Protest, Protete, Protete! ”, he wrote.

The message inspired no apparent protest or tension outside the centres where votes were being counted in Detroid, unlike two years ago, when many of Mr. Trump's supporters shouted outside the building's doors as the counting process continued. /Vosa
