Bujanoc Mayor Nagip Arifi, via a post on the social network “Facebook” has made it known that the total number of citizens registered in these three municipalities exceeds 125 thousand.
In Presevo and Bujanoc, most of the residents are Albanian nationals, while there are more Serbs in Medvedja.
Total Arif post:
Yesterday, October 31st, 2022, has completed the process of censusing and household in the Republic of Serbia. Albanians for the first time after the 2001 census responded to the call for registration. Of the preliminary results we have obtained today, Bujanoc numbers 54,498 people and 13,000 households, Presevo has 59,024 residents and 11,654 households, and Medvedja 8,459 residents and 5899 households.
These figures indicate that the municipality of Bujanoc is on the rise, compared to the last regular census in 2001, where our municipality has had a total of 43,302, today has grown to over 11,000.
For all this success, I must first thank the head of the O Mission The SEU in Serbia, Jan Braathu, who was the biggest guarantor that this process will take place in the spirit of European standards, which then opened the way for me to take the initiative for consulting meetings with representatives of other Albanian political parties in the Valley to respond positively to the census. After three consultative meetings in my cabinet, on July 25, 2022, we signed the joint declaration to participate in the census.
The decision to make this census was not an easy one, after the 2011 boycott, but eventually proved to be right. Right, because we exposed the 2011 census figures, where Albanians accounted for about 5,800 Albanians across Serbia. It is now clear that the number of Albanians is about 100,000.
And, in the end, but not least, I thank all the citizens who were registered, the working group near the municipal administration, the instructors who led this process, as well as a special thank you to all the records on the ground, who knocked through a month to register every resident and every home or apartment.
