Jabllanovic does not confirm participation in elections in the north, urges co-ordination with Belgrade

At the meeting with Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani for the appointment of an election date in the country's north, Serbian representatives are sceptical of holding extraordinary elections in Kosovo's four municipalities, as in northern Mitrovica, Leposaviq, Zubin Potok and Zvecan. At a meeting where officials from the Serbian List did not participate, Aleksandar Jablanovic of the Kosovo Serb Party, ahead of journalists in Pristina, has not confirmed his subject's participation in elections expected to be held on December 18th.

Former Minister Jablanovic has even called the situation in the north complicated. He said that for the organisation of elections in the north, there must be clear and close co-ordination with Serbia's Government.

While, Nenad Rassic from the Democratic Progressive Party, said she has nominated the president to postpone holding these elections, since, according to him, there are no conditions for holding them. Jabllanovic, who did not want to speak from the speaker where she addressed the president, said that from this situation in the north there may be unpredictable things.

“What I can now tell you as a man who comes from the north of Kosovo is that the possession of most of the northern citizens -- that of Serbs -- is that it should not now come to an election. Will anything change in the meantime and in what direction, it depends greatly on the mood of citizens by the actions of the Government in Pristina and especially on the actions/pots of our government in Belgrade. We need to have clear and close co-ordination with the Government of the Republic of Serbia, because these are not simply choices, these are elections at a specific moment, which can be very unpredictable. At the moment, we have not received answers from Pristina on the questions we have posed to”, he said.

Whether they will participate in the elections, Jablanovic said they will take into account many factors.

“The situation isn't that simple and it's about simple choices, it's a complicated situation. We have come to this meeting with only good intentions to hear what we are told here, what is the Pristina Institute's plan for organising these elections and nothing else related to it. Whether we will participate in these elections depends on many circumstances, but for us as Serbs before all, depends on the mood in our community, as well as on the positions of official Belgrade. And after all, when all things are taken into account we have to keep a little bit of a communication to convey the appropriate signals the government of Serbia sends us. We hope to have signals in a future period. President Osmani we've been following some of our doubts about some important details that are missing at today's meeting, so about how those elections are held, what are the shortcomings on the ground. So now is not a good time for choice. We will see that perhaps the answers to these questions will come at some future time. But, I think, however that the good ones, both legally and under the Constitution, are very short and there is no large space”, he said.

At the meeting with the president, Nenad Rassic from the Democratic Progressive Party, who shares Jablanovic's opinion.

Rassic said holding elections in the north could bring tensions and escalation of the situation to those municipalities.

I was a little more stressed than my colleague, saying that conditions for elections do not. So elections like this can be used for the eventual rise of tensions, conflicts, incidents and escalation of some unwanted actions and violence. And I wanted to find another way, so how do we postpone the elections at this moment or find another way to predict a certain time period of”, Rassic said.

After meeting with the president, Rashi also spoke with the license plates. He called on Prime Minister Kurti to postpone the decision on plates for even ten months.

Rassic said that if there is no extension of the deadline for speech of fines for those who do not convert plates, it can hardly be talked about any election outcome.

“I take the opportunity to once again beg the prime minister and all those in the decision-making chain, which has been the previous deadline for converting tables or better told me about the beginning of the sentences or measures that are meant for sanctioning

People who drive with KM, GL boards, and other signs, to prolongate for 10 months, to find space so that we can talk even here about elections in the north or any tactical solutions to strategy and long term. If what we have so far does not come to a movement or a consensus, I have to point out that unfortunately I am afraid that we will not even be able to talk about the election results”, he said.

Representatives from Vetevendosje, Glauk Konjufca, from PDK, Betim Djoshi, from LDK, Imri Ahmeti, and other minority parties, Aleksandar Jablanovovic from

The Kosovo Serb Party, Nenad Rassic from the Democratic Progressive Party, Emily Rexhepi from the NDS, Elbert Krasniqi and Faton Peci from the Gux list.

In addition to the Serbian List, the AAK did not attend the meeting with the president.
