Following calls with leaders from Kosovo and Serbia, Taani said “now needs to continue on the road to dialogue and full normalisation of relations”.
Tayan, who visited the capitals of the two countries -- Pristina and Belgrade -- on Tuesday, along with Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto, added that the Balkan “future is in Europe and Italy is ready to play a leading role in this region”.
Italy currently heads NATO mission to Kosovo, KFOR, and it is the state with the largest contribution in terms of the number of troops in Kosovo.
Ahead of Wednesday's meeting in Brussels between EU envoy for dialogue Miroslav Lajcak and Kosovo and Serbia's chief negotiators, Besnik Bislimi and Petar Petkovic, Western allies had warned that the dispute could escalate to interethnic violence.
However, this was prevented during negotiations in Brussels, supported by the United States of America.
Kosovo has agreed not to proceed further with implementation of the decision to reregister vehicles with Serbian illegal license plates in the RKS, while Serbia does not issue new Serbian license plates, such as those KM (Kosovska Mitrovica, Kosovo Mitrovica).
On November 22nd, at the request of the US, Kurti had delayed implementation for 48 hours of the second phase of the decision to reregister cars with Serbian illegal license plates in RKS, the Republic of Kosovo, to enable European Union-brokered talks.
The Kosovo Government's decision to reregister Serbian illegal license plates in the RKS, Republic of Kosovo, has had three phases.
The first phase of reproof has been implemented until 22 November. The second phase envisioned the 150-euro fine for drivers with such license plates and then presenting temporary license plates until April 21st, the date after which it was scheduled to no longer have cars with Serbian license plates.
Serbia, which has issued illegal license plates for Kosovo Serbs since post-war in 1999, opposes this plan, insisting on neutral plates to Kosovo status. / REL
