EU spokesman Peter Stano has published the EU's foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell,'s full statement Wednesday evening regarding the agreement reached in Brussels between Kosovo and Serbia for license plates. As reported in the statement, Borrell will invite the parties in the coming days to discuss the next steps, within the framework of the EU proposal for normalisation, supported by France and Germany.
Full statement:
With the European Union's mediation, the parties have agreed with measures to avoid the crossings and concentrate on urgent issues, on the proposal for normalising relations, as presented this September by the EU and supported by France and Germany.
This means that Serbia will stop leaving illegal plates with the cuts in Kosovo cities, and Kosovo will cease any action regarding the reregistering of cars.
The European Union will ensure that key issues and principles related to normalisation will be addressed in the conflict with the proposal. The parties understand that all agreements reached in the past must be implemented.
I will invite the parties in the coming days to discuss future steps, within the framework of the proposal, with the goal of presenting the results to the next special group for normalisation and future updates for Serbia chapter 35. In the event of deadlock from either side, the EU mediator could complete the process.
Me and special representative Miroslav Lajcak will continue to mediate the process of normalising relations and update EU members and regular partners about the progress achieved by the parties.
