European Parliament Eurodeput, Violet von Cromon, has declared that Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq must make sure the majority is in support of Ukraine.
Von Croamon has added that Russian military aggression against Ukraine has shaken the entire European continent.
“Of course, the terrible Russian aggression against Ukraine is shaking the entire European continent, Western Balkan countries are also affected by rising energy prices, from the collapse of the economy, from security threats”, von Cromon said in an interview for The Geopost. The rapporteur for Kosovo in this institution stresses that despite the establishment of the new government in Belgrade, Aleksandar Vuciq is the one who makes all decisions and rules the whole country.
She claims former Serbian Minister of Internal Affairs Aleksandar Vulin is clearly a pro-Putin doll. We'll see, at the end, is Aleksandar Vuciq who makes the decisions, he's ruling the country. Aleksandar Vulin was clearly a pro-Putin doll, he kept attacking me, but can you take it seriously?
I can't, because in the end my impression is that Serbia would like to become a member, but they have a very large percentage of their population, which are nationalist and support Russia”, concludes von Croamon.
Total interview:
It's been eight months since Russian aggression in Ukraine, how is it affecting Europe and especially the Balkans?
Von Croamon: Certainly the formidable Russian aggression against Ukraine is shaking the entire continent, the countries of the Western Balkans are also affected by rising energy prices, the collapse of the economy, by security threats. Kosovo is a traumatised society, I understand why people here are much more vulnerable, much more nervous when they look at pictures of women leaving, children are affected, people are joining the military, territorial protection, which has a lot to do with the region and a country like Kosovo, so I see that it is happening very much in terms of financial impact, in terms of social effects, and we have to stay in solidarity. We need from each state here for a clear commitment to where they will stay, including Serbia.
And that is why it is so important for this UN resolution, for other resolutions, that all countries that want to become members of the European Union, who try to do so, have a clear commitment under sanctions, according to other EU requirements, but also on clear common foreign and security policy.
How does the EU view the new Serbian government, believe it is more pro-Western or pro-lish?
Von Croamon: Well, we'll see, in the end is the one who makes the decisions, he's ruling the country. The seal was clearly a doll for Putin, he kept attacking me, but can you take it seriously? I can't, because in the end my impression is that Serbia would like to become a member, but they have a fairly large percentage of their population, which are nationalist and support Russia. A It is this majority, I don't think so, but Vuciq needs to make sure that the majority understand why we have to be in support of Ukraine, why we have to hand over weapons, why we have to stick together and why he must also comply with common foreign and security policy.
A message to Balkan residents for this winter?
Von Croamon: For this winter I think we're all suffering, we're all going to suffer, energy prices are high, but don't give up, for me, this is important and I'm very proud that the Western Balkans took the road, they want to become a member and we as friends of the Western Balkans will support you in this effort.
