Albania's President Bajram Begaj set May 14th 2023 as the date for holding the upcoming local elections.
The president praises the period up to the elections as very important for successfully completing this democracy challenge for institutions, political parties and all Albanian society, as well as stressing that it is time to demonstrate commitment and institutional co-operation, political maturity and civic accountability.
Begaj urges all sides to approach this date with humility and respect toward citizens and political opponents.
The head of state invites voters not to bypass the civic duty of good integration on political alternatives and to exercise the right to vote, undirected by interests, which violate vote and free will.
Among other things, President Begaj underlines that the Electoral Reform Commission has the obligation to speed up work and address all issues stemming from the recommendations of the O report SBE/ The ODIHR.
In this case, President Begaj praises the need to establish political normality in local government and calls on political parties to go to these elections with serious and competitive political options, which are central to citizen attention and better democratic standards. /A2
