At a panel of discussion where the European Union's emissary, Miroslav Lajcak, Tahiri said it is time to mark history and open the new chapter of peace.
The final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia should only be the recognition between the two countries without two-tones is the time to write a new story, with a new chapter of peace opening between Kosovo-Serbia relations. Put the wording aside. We will allow time for open issues to be closed -- not only for Kosovo and Serbia -- this applies to the EU and the Balkans in particular when we see what's happening”, she said.
She also criticised the fact that there are no women in the talks delegations in Brussels.
Great courage to come here today. From the empty table in Brussels without women, neither to the Kosovo delegation nor to Serbia, I don't know how you can get here. We're here, and to be at the negotiating table, you have to be in politics. I became a peace negotiator 23 years ago at the Rambouillet conference, I was the only woman among 15 men. Because I was the main leader in freedom and independence movements, I was a politician and made it inevitable not to be there”, she said.
It has called on women not to stay away from politics but to become part of decision-making.
Civil society is very important for democratisation, but we women must be not only part of civil society but also part of the tables, making important decisions for the future for peace and security. We live at a dangerous time with the war in Ukraine and Russia's madness, but also trying to come around the Balkans. With this we believe that if women had been in the global leadership in the world, maybe we wouldn't be in such a big global crisis. The situation is this, I would like to assist the women's leadership, invest as a society, as institutions, but also where women can encourage”, Tahiri said.
This is the first edition of the International Forum for Women, Peace and Security, which has gathered around 500 participants from 33 countries in the world in Pristina. / KP/
