A new blood test reveals over 50 types of cancer and their place of origin in the body. However, the test still cannot replace normal controls, as technology still needs to improve.
The new blood test presented at a convention of the European Oncology Association recognizes tumoric DNA and where they are found in the body. The test thus shows not only if the patient has cancer but also his own type.
Researchers tested about 6,000 people over the age of 50 for cancer. About one percent of blood tests were positive.
Later tests confirmed that a third of those who proved positive had real cancer. Test subjects found tumors in a total of 15 organs and other body tissues.
However, the test still cannot replace normal cancer checks, since technology still needs to improve. / DW/
