Prime Minister Kurti welcomed MCC Chief Executive Alice Albright
Pristina, October 17th 2022
The prime minister of the Republic of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, along with Economy Minister Artane Rizvanolli and Prime Minister's Chief of Staff Luan Dalipi, welcomed the Executive Chief of the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), Alice Albright, accompanied by US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Havener today.
Honored by her visit to Kosovo, Prime Minister Kurti thanked Mrs. Albright for the current co-operation and expressed readiness for its continued implementation towards the rapid implementation of the Kompact Programme under the agreement signed between the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and the United States of America in July of this year.
In addition to ratification in the Parliament with the support of 89 deputies less than a day after the signing, at the 100th Government Meeting, two working groups have been established in service of implementation of the agreement. Thus, Kosovo for the first time is creating its first capacities for the combination of electricity batteries, and is investing in the development of new skills in the energy sector, preparing for the right energy transition.
The agreement with the MCC on the Kompact Programme comes at a critical moment. The Republic of Kosovo aims at an export-oriented economy and increasing renewable energy capacities. For both of these, the Kompact and MCC programme are very important, Prime Minister Kurti said.
MCC Chief Executive Alice Albright expressed gratitude for the quick ratification of the agreement in the Republic of Kosovo and gave full readiness for close co-operation towards its implementation as soon as possible. She said the Kompack programme is a long-term project for Kosovo, with priorities for even the MCC itself.
This meeting was held within Mrs. Albright in Kosovo. Her visit comes after signing the agreement for the Kompact Programme between the Republic of Kosovo and the United States of America, represented by the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC), worth $226.7m. It represents the largest and most innovative investment in the energy sector in Kosovo to date and will contribute to the country's energy security.
The Kompack programme includes three projects:
1. Power reserves and arbitration 340 MWh,
2. Development of the workforce, with particular emphasis on including women in the energy sector, as well as
3. The American Institute of Development Institute project, which aims to boost private sector financing from the United States' International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) in Kosovo.
The Kompact Programme investments will be owned by the Republic of Kosovo and mark one of the most important developmental co-operations between the Republic of Kosovo and the United States of America.
