The underwater volcano is being analyzed by geologic services worldwide, and in the United States, a tsunami alert has been issued that may affect the western coast of the United States, the Hawaiian Islands, California, and even Alaska.
It is believed that the tsunami will arrive just at the California coast in the morning, about 7:45. If you're in this coastal area, stay away from the beach, port and navy. Don't go to the coast to see the tsunami. Be attentive to local emergency officials' instructions, the agency warned.
The New Zealand Army said it is monitoring the situation and remains ready to help if required.
The volcano's eruption was heard thousands of miles away and prompted warnings in New Zealand, the Fiji Islands, the American Samoa Islands, and Australia.
In South America, Chile's National Emergency Office warned this Saturday of the possibility of a small <x0 cunami following the eruption of a volcano in Tonga”. The population was asked to leave the beach area because of the tsunami's possibility.
