The Kosovo Assembly will hold today extraordinary session, where it will be discussed regarding Serbia's intentions to hold constitutional referendum in Kosovo. The hearing was called after Prime Minister Albin Kurti's request to Chief Parliamentary Glauk Konjufca.

The session will be held at 2:00.

“Discuting on Serbia's intentions to hold constitutional referendum on the territory of the Republic of Kosovo”, the Parliament's announcement reported.

Through a media communique, the prime minister's office has indicated that a joint resolution will be put forward at the session, where MPs' will to hold Serbia's referendum in Kosovo is expressed.

The Republic of Kosovo's “Prime Minister Albin Kurti has addressed Republic of Kosovo Speaker Glauk Konjufca, at the request for the extraordinary Assembly session/ In line with Article 69 paragraphs 4 of the Constitution of the Republic of Kosovo and Article 38 paragraph 2b of the Republic of Kosovo's Republic of Kosovo Electoralr, Prime Minister Kurti has addressed the Assembly at the request for the Constitution's extraordinary session for tomorrow, Saturday, on January 15, 2022, at 2:00. In line with the day of this extraordinary session is the discussion about Serbia's intention to hold constitutional referendum on the territory of the Republic of Kosovo. The discussion by this session aims to issue a joint resolution, in which the political will of MPs and parliamentary groups and the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo is expressed, on the issue highlighted”, the communiqué says.

EU and QUINT states are asking Prime Minister Kurti to allow Kosovo Serbs' vote for a referendum to be held in Serbia on Sunday based on earlier voting practices, where O The SEU has raised votes.

This is against the Kosovo government's chief with the argument that “maintaining a referendum in a sovereign state of another state is a practice accepted by no democratic state”.

The Kosovo government has indicated that Kosovo Serbs who have dual citizenship can vote in Serbia's referendum through two forms, the one by mail and through the Serbian Liaison Office in Kosovo.

US Ambassadors Britain, Germany, France and Italy today have also visited President Vjosa Osmani. After this joint meeting, Prime Minister Albin Kurti has spoken, who has indicated he will call an extraordinary session.

Then, through a joint statement, Prime Minister Kurti, President Osmani and Chief Prosecutor Konjufca, after meeting with QUINT, have announced that they have not wavered from the stance of not allowing Serbia's Kosovo referendum organisation, where O The SEU would deal with garnering votes as if in the past vote.

In this communique, three main state institutions have reiterated the position that Serbs with dual citizenship can vote by mail or in Serbia's liaison office in Pristina.

Citizens of Serbia, on January 16th, will be declared by “po” or “for a question: “Are you confirming the act to change the Constitution of the Republic of Serbia?”.

The changes concern the judiciary, and Serbia has been tasked with the European Union membership process. As EU representatives have consistently explained, the purpose of changing Serbia's constitution is to achieve an independent judiciary, without political influence and rule of law.

As rarely, opposition parties in the country have come to the support of the Kosovo government. The LDK, PDK and AAK are rejecting holding Serbia's referendum in Kosovo.

Despite international pressure on the Government of Kosovo for holding Serbia's referendum in Kosovo, leaders of three opposition parties are in line with Prime Minister Kurti, against holding Serbia's Kosovo referendum.

On the other hand, the US State Department has published on the official page the QUINT embassies' request for allowing Serbia's referendum to be held in Kosovo.

The US State Department's Media Office has published the joint declaration on Serbia's National Referendum on 16 January.
