This is the second reported test of a hypersonic weapon, which can avoid detection for longer than ballistic missiles, reports the BBC, translates Periscope.
The test came after its leader Kim Jong-un earlier vowed to strengthen Pyongyang's defence capacities.
In the talk on New Year's Eve, Mr. Kim said North Korea would continue to be fortified militarily.
