Members of Serbia's military, during the days of New Year's and Orthodox Christmas, are conducting a military exercise near the border generation with Kosovo.

The exercise, reportedly in the Serbian Defence Ministry communiqué, “is being held in order to preserve and improve combat readiness for performing dedicated tasks”.

“The exercise is being conducted on bases and objects as part of regular activities and represents the continuation and advance of the exercise Serbian Army units perform before being sent to the Land Security Zone [with Kosovo]”.

“Fokus is in the exercise of operations and combat action in the event of an attack on Serbian Army forces, as well as on tactics, techniques and procedures used to prevent illegal crossings, extremist groups and organised crime”, the announcement said.

In contrast, according to the Serbian Defence Ministry, the <x0 security sector in the Land Security Zone is stable and the continued training of members of the Serbian Army further improves the ability to perform specific tasks along the administrative line in co-operation with other security bodies of the Republic of Serbia and KFOR, to ensure a peaceful and secure environment for all citizens”.
