Borrell announced that in addition to financial assistance, the EU is also considering establishing a mission to support Ukraine in the area of military training.
If diplomacy fails, we are already preparing to respond to possible Russian aggression. It will be a quick and decisive action of unity, not only within the EU, but also on the” international scene, Borrell said.
After the EU Council meeting, he reiterated the EU's unreserved support for Ukraine and urged Russia to constructively analyse existing international forums in an effort to find a diplomatic solution to the current security crisis in Europe.
Borrell added that for the situation in Eastern Europe and relations with Russia, the EU is in close co-ordination with the United States, NATO, the OSCE and other international partners.
“The ark of the Russian Army in and around Ukraine and Russia's efforts to create dividing lines on our continent undermine our basic foundations and principles on which European security is built and turn dark memory into areas of influence that do not belong to the 21”, Borrell said.
The head of EU diplomacy said the EU is working on several tracks to help Ukraine build the country's resistance to various attacks, starting with cyber and hybrid attacks.
Borrell said the European Commission came out today with a proposal to approve an urgent bailout package for Ukraine of 1.2 billion euros.
He recalled that member states are already engaged in the mission, which should help Kiev protect itself from future cyber and hybrid attacks, adding that the creation of an EU mission to support Ukraine in the field of military training is also planned.
