President Biden's “Administration will impose sanctions on any politician seeking the unification of Kosovo with Albania”

In a report published today by the American Foreign Policy Institute '%hn Hopkins) stresses that President Joe Biden's administration will take sanctions against any political leader in Albania and Kosovo, which calls for the creation of Greater Albania. The report, which explains the situation in the Balkans, particularly the relations between Kosovo and Serbia, details among other things that any attempts to call or promote the creation of Greater Albania or the union between the two countries will be accompanied by sanctions.
“The implementation of steps of the Biden administration, including the appointment of special envoy for Kosovo recognition”, along with the US's expressed warning to sanction any leader in Albania or Kosovo who promotes or calls for reunification between the two independent countries”, Report states.
The report explains the West's approach to Kosovo and the situation in the Balkans, stressing that EU states that have not yet recognised Kosovo, if they change their attitude, make up the key to regional stability. This causes Belgrade and Pristina to move from their positions. The report notes that the West is working with Greece to recognise Kosovo and that it would pave the way for Kosovo to later be a NATO member. The report also raises the alarm for Russian and Chinese influence in the Balkans. “The rise of Russian and Chinese influence in the Balkan region is alarming”, the report reads.
It further explains that Kosovo can mark the final point of the breakup of Yugoslavia, which comes only through its recognition by remaining NATO and EU countries.
“Basically of strategy is: Yugoslavia's violent breakup of three decades could end where it started in Kosovo. That claim stands for the ongoing crisis to keep Bosnia and Herzegovina busy. Strong US sanctions imposed in early January 2022, even if they lie on a wider range of corrupt figures in the country, will not cure Bosnia's paralysis for decades. On the other hand, the recognition of the Republic of Kosovo by four NATO members such as Spain, Slovakia, Romania and Greece would transform the EU-led Dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina, and the entire region, including Bosnia and Herzegovina. Obeying these four states and a fifth, Cyprus, which is an EU member, but not NATO's to recognise Kosovo is not that easy. This will require a determined effort by the Beden administration, together with key allies, to convince those who do not recognise to change their” position, the report further says.
